So I am taking my first trip for work tomorrow (well, it’s a fun trip too – to the American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting).  I’m very excited about having some time away from the baby – a good night’s sleep, the chance to workout in the hotel gym etc.  Poor Mikey is a little scared…

In terms of the travel itself, I’m usually the best traveler – I have the whole thing down, but this time it’s more complicated because I’m still nursing and so have to bring the pump.  I’ve been on the FAA website and figured out the rules (and printed them out) but I’m still not sure how I’m going to manage.  Unfortunately I’m staying in a nice hotel, meaning no fridge in the bedroom so once I get there I’m going to try and persuade them to give me a fridge and a late checkout so I have a private place all day.  Anyway, we’ll see how it goes.  If any of you mothers have done this before and have any advice, let me know…  Fathers feel free to share Mike’s pain!

So the last time we did this was D.C. and I actually went with L. and Mr. I to ease the whole pumping/nursing thing.

We actually ended up getting a fridge, so that all worked out.

As for being solo, Miguel. Stick to the plan and don’t make any plans. I think that was what got me through solo times with Mr. I – I would keep to his routine but try to do as much fun stuff (toy store, parks, forts, etc) but definitely not have any other plans besides hanging with the dude.

I’ve had some of the best times with Henry when Lara’s been out of town. You’ll do fine Mike, and it’s a great feeling of accomplishment getting through the day solo.

He’ll totally be fine. Mike already does the mornings before Berta comes by to pick James up, and generally he’s only up for a few hours in the evening after we get home. It’s the nights that are tricky because there is no true routine yet but we’re getting there. My one concern is that I tend to wake up when James wakes up and starts whimpering but I have a feeling Mike won’t and it won’t be before the full on crying starts that he wakes up, which will probably make it harder to get him back to sleep.

Ah well, I don’t care! I’ll be sleeping blissfully in the Hyatt Riverfront St. Louis…

I’ve arranged for a visit from “Sexy Claus”, so James and I will be just fine…

Thanks! Yes, my morning run was foiled – ah well. Just a flying visit – back tonight so didn’t get to see much, although the arch is right by the hotel so that’s cool.
