Well this is really about private transportation but sure hey…
So I cycled to work today for the first time. I thought I didn’t have to go in and had a long training ride scheduled but then realized I had a meeting so decided to give the biking commute a shot. It’s about 12 miles from our apartment to school, and you can get there almost entirely by going along bike paths by the Hudson river. it’s a really nice ride but there are logistical problems.
Where do you leave your bike? I’m lucky in that I can bring my bike into my office because I wouldn’t want to leave it on the street. The only problem with that is if I want to shower, I have to go to my office, drop off the bike, then walk over to the gym (10 minutes), shower, and then walk back – a bit time consuming. Alternatively I could ride my old bike, which I’m not as worried about being stolen to the gym, shower and then go to the office. But riding the old bike means a longer trip and unpleasantness on hills! My solution this morning was to ride the new bike, bring a change of clothes and deoderant but not to shower – it wasn’t that hot so that was feasible but I don’t think not showering will be an option when I’m biking in 80 degree weather…
food for thought…

You could always use those lovely bathrooms in Washington Square Park. Vince and I found them very charming.
